Be You (tiful) #hsloveyourselfie

So lets talk about the selfie craze. I'll be honest here.. when I read this selfie movement assignment, I think I stared at the computer with the deer in the headlights look for a good solid 3 minutes... I'm just not a selfie kinda girl.. I think I've taken about 3 since I've owned a cell phone! And they were painful lol! I'm one of those "ugh I hate pictures of myself" kind of people, so this was truly a challenge for me! But you know what? I am so thankful that we did this! It made me stop and think about so many things! It was really an eye opener.  It caused me to evaluate why I'm such a weirdo when it comes to looking at pictures of myself? And why do I look at a picture of myself and immediately start tearing myself to shreds? I think I took over 100 selfies and deleted about 95 of them.. and a few things went through my mind during this process; ugh look how fat my face looks (there's the over critiquing), so & so always looks perfect in her selfies so why is this hard for me to get just one good one (boom there's the comparison of someone in a totally different gene pool) , and wow using my dog as a pillow in the grass is the best spot in the world!

I never understood why us women compare ourselves to each other, it's really silly if you think about it. Can you imagine 2 men having a conversation saying "Wow I wish my buns were as taught as his" or "gee I wish my eyebrows were as contoured as yours, do you get them waxed?" God created us all so differently and uniquely, when did we start believing that that's not enough? We are created in His image, so how could each one of us be anything less than a miracle? And when are we gonna start believing that it's so awesome to be different?! How boring would life be if we all looked the same?! I mean, if Dr. Suess gets it, why can't I?! He said; Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." There is no one alive like you. No one. Why try to be like someone else or look like someone else or try to "fit the mold?" Thanks to this assignment, I am so over that now. I am so going to flood your Instagram accounts with Sarah selfies! It's going to be Sarah-selfie-mania! lol just kidding. But. I AM going to start embracing who I am, I'm just going to get over it, and start realizing that my family won't care if I look chunky monkey in my pictures or that my nose looks a little on the larger side.. Someday my children will be grateful to have my selfies just because it's me. Their momma. And they'll say, "hey remember where we took that picture?" or "hey remember that day when we were at the zoo and so & so peed right in the middle of the picnic lawn area because he was potty training and got M&M's everytime he didn't pee his pants?" I mean who doesn't love funny memories like that?! We need these photographs. We need them to jog our memories and to help us remember every one of life's precious little moments. Because in reality?  Time flies. Memories fade.

As scrapbookers, I think we tend to get caught up in the products and creating and we forget what we're actually doing. I can't tell you how long it's been since I actually thought about what a picture actually is. What a picture actually is. It's a moment in time captured. It's an image of someone that lived, that was here, it's proof. Proof of a fabulous significant life. We need to stop hiding. Get in front of the lens!!
One of the questions we had to think about was; What does real beauty mean to you? Immediately, my mind brought up things that had nothing to do with the physical aspect. Actually, some really awesome Bible verses popped in my head. So I created a mini album that has some art journaling in it, I always really loved the look of art journals and I want to start making them! Just a fun way to document your thoughts, favorite quotes, all kinds of stuff! I used the Hello Today Collection, and the new Heidi Swapp Scrapbook Kit that you can find at Michaels, grab one because they are packed with super fun to alter!

Be You Copy
In the scrapbook kit, there are several really cool clear pieces with white accents on them, they are absolutely adorable! So I used one as my cover. Using the birdie stencil, I added some modeling paste mixed with mint green paint to add some texture to the page.
Here is the first page, I just traced a template I have in my stash for the shape, I love mixing shapes in albums it makes it more interesting to look through!

#SB copy
The next layout has a photo stack on the right hand side that I filled with some thoughts on real beauty, and some silly selfies ;)

To create an artsy journal canvas page, I trimmed the scalloped canvas piece in the kit and covered it with a sloppy coating of gesso. Then, take the striped Heidi swap stencil and mint green/aqua paint and create stripes across page which will create some "lines" to journal on! I did the same on the other side!

The Good Stuff copy

This is my Catahoula that makes a great pillow ;) He's my Moo..

The next layout is my favorite, simply because the Hello Today paper pads have the most BEAUTIFUL colors and patterns, and the Lace Pad has these fabulous words cut out of the papers! There are so many possibilities with these things! I created a page with a pocket so I could slip tag into the side. Just lay the die cut paper down onto another piece of paper, and only adhere 3 sides and you have yourself a pocket!

I don't know what it is about that pindot stencil, but it is absolutely darling! When I was applying the modeling paste and pulled the stencil off, I immediately wanted to add more lol! I am going to be putting these little dots on everything!

I have this kitty named Mr. Meowgi, and he doesn't care how bad I look in the morning, he still snuggles with me. Until he's hungry then he bites my leg and tries to drag me into the bathroom to feed him...
I did some more random stenciling to another piece of cute canvas, then added some leaves I die cut. It's ok if you don't have an actual leaves die, try hand cutting them out! That looks super cute too! Be creative!

Be Your Best
I love this sticker; Be Your Best. Be YOUR Best. Be YOU. Because that is the MOST beautiful
So go ahead. Take some selfies! Have FUN! Celebrate this life that God has given you and stop obsessing over the little things you don't like about yourself!  Because you know what? Chances are other people don't even see them as flaws, just special little things that make you, you. And you don't HAVE to post your selfies on Insty or Facebook, just take them, print them, and keep them for your family to have someday. Create a fun little artsy fartsy journal about YOU! What I wouldn't give for a few selfies of my grandma or great-grandma?! As young girls riding a ferris wheel at the county fair? Or posing while getting ready to dig into a fresh peach cobbler they just pulled out of the oven? Can you imagine? ;)
Thanks for hangin out with me today and I hope you go take some selfies!
Love, Rah xo

Let's Find A Place & Get Lost

What day is it?! hump....DAYYY!! WOOHOO!!  I so love looking forward to the weekend! Hopefully I'll get some creative time ;) It makes me so happy! Another thing that makes me super happy is sneaking away to Barnes & Noble for a fresh cuppa joe and a fresh crisp new magazine...simple pleasures...they are so good for the soul. Sometimes they take you away from it all for awhile, especially book stores for some reason? I don't know why they are so calming to me but I love them! I snuck away one day before I had to work a midnight shift and snapped a quick pic with my phone and so I had this sweet little treat to document...
I had some gorgeous new Webster's Pages to use, this floral is just stunning! I also used some Bronzer Heidi Swapp Color Shine, a new Tim Holtz stencil and his hashtag stamps, a vintage flashcard, some Studio Calico wooden hearts, chipboard frames from Crate Paper, and a wooden mug but I'm not sure from who.... I'll have to go check...
Seriously...layering makes my heart flutter...

I love finding vintage ephemera and other treasures to use in my papercrafting!
Like little Frenchy flash cards...

A fun way to add some texture to your page is, after you use a stencil, take a little scrap of cardboard, slap some paint on it, and just stamp it down in random places on your layout!

I love layering these chipboard frames! So cute! And that gold striped paper is just to die!

When I did this layout, I realized that it kinda matches with the Jot Magazine Mood Board Challenge that they have goin on over on their site! So I thought why not? You should play along! Go check it out and have a scrap happy day!

Life Is Beautiful

Good day beautiful! Have you gotten your hands on the new Dreamy Collection by Heidi Swapp?! It is soooo beautiful I just adore it! It's got this soft pastel palette that's just so very, well, dreamy.. I have this special picture of mine that you're probably going to see very often lol I keep re-scrapping it because it's just a very special memory I have of my mom and I.

These colors are killing me I just want to eat this page!!  There's lots of fun layering on this page, and I did a page with the exact same layout not too long ago and I realize that, sometimes it's ok to scraplift yourself! You don't have to re-invent the wheel everytime you do a page, what's important is that you are scrapping!

I love to hide my journaling if I have a lot to write. It's just kinda cool to have some interactive elements on your pages!

One of my favorite papers evuh!

I layered on top of the sticker banner that comes in the Dreamy Memory File pack. To create these soft white polkies, just lay the pin dot stencil over the top of it and sponge some gesso down onto it. I love the softness but it also leaves some texture!

The Dreamy Ephemera pack is LOADED with pretty pieces! I just love it!

I have been pretty hooked on the vellum craze lately, and I wanted to switch things up a bit so I laid the striped stencil down from JoAnn's on top of the vellum and using a mixture of paint and the Heidi Swapp Magic Medium, I created some super cute stripes to layer with!

The Heidi Swapp stamps at Michael's are so awesome for adding texture to your page! I have 2 of the vintage words and 2 of the music notes, so what I did was left one whole and cut the other one apart so I had little ones to work with also. Just makes it easier to spot stamp on a layout.

I hope you enjoyed my little post today! This picture was the only picture that my mom and I got of us together at Creative Escape 2010. It was a life changing event and I will never ever forget it. So thankful I got to share it with my mom! Love her.

Have a beautiful day and don't forget to be awesome!

Love, Rah xoxo

She Leaves A Sparkle

Well hello there my paper peeps! Happy Monday woohooo!! A fresh start to a beautiful week ;) Just poppin in today to share a fun & quick little layout with you, it's a picture of Heidi Swapp at her surprise birthday partay!

I wanted to create something with this b&w striped paper from Heidi's Favorite Things Collection, I am OBSESSED with it! I just love it and the worn spots on it ;) So fab.

I die-cut some sparkly gold stars with my Sizzix Stars 2 die and my Big Shot which I cannot live without lol!
Lovely layers...

Sprinkle some Black Velvet Color Shine and gold sequins to create a little artsy twinkly feel..

I am in love with this adorable stamp set from Jillibean Soup for Hampton Arts! It is so stinkin cute!

Note the vintage Heidi Swapp photo corner???? I may or may not have a stash of those...

That's a scalloped banner from the Color Pop Collection down there on the bottom...

Seriously. Heat embossing is one of my favorite techniques evuh! And it's just so basic?! But everytime I do it I'm like woooooowwwww lolol! It's the little things I say.
Have a glorious day!
xoxo Rah

Today Was Magic

Once upon a time, Heidi Swapp came to Illinois to teach some classes at a store in Antioch called Hannah's Home Accents. She was going to be celebrating her birthday a few days later, so Maggie Massey and I were super excited that we got to spend her birthday weekend with her! We came up with the idea that it would be totally awesome to have a surprise birthday party for miss Heidi, and I can't believe it, but we totally pulled it off. I mean, like everything was perfect pulled it off. I had to drive 40 minutes back and forth from the bakery to my house to pick up the amazing Atomic Cake and 50 cupcakes, then get them all up to Antioch without anything bad happening to them or them melting! Scarrryyyy!! But God answered my prayers and everything turned out perfecto! I am so thankful that I got to plan this with Maggie! It was so fun sneakin and planning, everytime we were texting about ideas for it I was totally giddy like a kid! She did so awesome getting all of the décor together, it was so beautiful! She also made these little flowers to put on the mini cute water bottles, she is so good at little details like that! Birthdays are just so cool, I just love them and when you get to do something special for someone like Heidi, it just makes it that much more awesome! So here are some pictures of the partay for you to enjoy, Maggie got the "Oh Joy" partay décor at Target, the colors are just stunning! With the gold?! Ugh. Fantastic.

Looks like a partay...

If you've never experienced an atomic cake, this is what the insides look like. Layers of pure delicious happiness topped with fluffy whipped cream straight from bakery heaven...

Pink roses with mint green writing...

The table looked so cute!

Frosting heaven! The cupcakes were moist yellow cake topped with delicious buttercream frosting and edible glitter! Maggie made these fantastic cupcake picks, they were so perfect!

I bought these beautiful die cut white cupcake wraps and I totally forgot they were in the car boohoo ;(

The birthday girl ;) Her reaction was just priceless. It was actually a very emotional day lol but in a good way! Soulful women we are ;)
So Dana, the owner of Hannah's, took Heidi in the kitchen to grab a quick bite while we were flyin around like crazies getting everything set up! Heidi said she was eating slowwwww and was like "Where are they?!" lololol heehee so sneaky we are!

I will never forget this weekend as long as I live. It was just pure magic. Such a wonderful way to create special memories!
Here is Dana & I, I am so glad I got to know her better this time, she is an absolute sweetheart and just so funny! Just say no to almonds. Nuff said.
My dear sweet friends Cheryl & Mags;

Moi & Cheryl;
At the end we let the balloons go, and we all made wishes..It was the perfect ending to a magical weekend.

Will never forget!
Thank you so much for hangin with me today, I hope you enjoyed my little slide show of Heidi's Birthday Partay, there's a ton of pics but I didn't want to flood you lol!
Have a blessed day!
Love, Rah xoxo
